TWT - Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park elk

More this week from our trip to Colorado July 2008.

We saw lots of elk while we were out there, but this guy was just chilling right off the road.

I'm not certain what's up with the fuzziness in these photos, they were taken with my manual 35mm, so I probably had something set funny. I think I may have had the doubler on too, which can mess with stuff when it's not super close up. Unfortunately one of the major problems with shooting film is you (obviously) can't see the photo right away, so can't correct the shot right away. I still love these shots, even though I wish they'd been a bit more crisp. Lessons learned, and all that.

TWT - Garden of the Gods

Taken at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, July 2008. I took this one just shortly before this other awesome picture. You should know the one I'm talking about without even having to go back in look. But you should go back & look anyways, because it really is an awesome shot. :)

Scavenger Hunt Sunday: Sept 12

Another scavenger hunt this week, and I almost sat this one out because I was having a hard time deciding what to shoot. I don't think they turned out too bad, but you'll have to excuse the snark. :)

1. Landscape -- Had to go to the archives for this one. Taken in Colorado back in 2008, this is one of my favorite shots from our week out there. Taken with the 35mm SLR, I just can't beat that camera!

2. Powerlines -- Hee.

What?! All our lines are run underground, it makes sense to me! :)

Okay, okay, fine. Is this better? I took this one with my cell phone, looking directly into the sun. I couldn't even see the screen, so I was happy to have a decent picture come out of it.

3. Newspaper -- I cut this out of a paper bag that was made to look like an old newspaper ad. I originally picked this particular part because of the Gunsmiths, but thought the "Wanted, Steady Woman, A Thorough Good Cook" part was pretty funny too. The entire ad says, "Wanted for a family in the country, a sensible well educated steady woman, qualified to superintend a family, and a thorough good cook (...) meat, pastry, preserves, etc. She will have a proper assistant in the kitchen, and every reasonable encouragement given to her from the family, according to her qualifications and integrity."

4. Pose -- Hmmm...I know! Quick, Raven, play dead!

Good girl! :)

No, not a good enough pose for you? You're right, she was just dead tired after a nice long walk.

Okay, how about this? I guarantee she didn't enjoy being under that blanket very long, but she was a good girl & listened to Mommy when I told her to just relax & lay still. You can tell she's pouting.

Still not a good enough pose for you? Okay, this is my final try!

If that's not good enough, I don't know what is. :)

5. Hobby -- This is obviously a VERY small portion of my fabric.

TWT - Bee

This picture is probably, by far, my favorite picture of all the ones I've taken. It was a total fluke thing, I was taking pictures of these flowers at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs when we were out there in 2008. I knew the bee was buzzing around while I was taking the pictures, but had no idea it had gotten into the shot. I've had this picture blown up for a few people, gotten a purse made with it for myself, and gotten a few of the cosmetic bags from ArtsCow (check it out if you've never heard of them!). I'm just absolutely in love with this picture.

Today I found the photography assignments on Pioneer Woman, and this week it just happens to be BUGS! Of course I decided I just had to add my picture to the mix & see what happens. I'm always hearing (mostly from my mom & dad, so I'm not sure if it counts!) that I should enter the shot into some sort of contest, so here goes. I actually also submitted it to a photo contest at work & had it published in a quarterly news letter, so that was definitely a nice sense of accomplishment. I'm hoping for the best with this contest, but after looking at the other shots, I'm not too hopeful. We'll just see what happens.
