WIP Wednesday #12

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

Another week down! I know I probably say this every week, but they sure seem to be flying by lately. I know August will be here before we know it. And I can't wait! :)

Thankfully, even though I didn't necessarily get a lot done this week, I still feel like I had a pretty productive week.

Need to start: Two Keyka Lou basic wallets, a Christmas present (for last year), the May String Me Along block, and a crochet blanket.

Started: May's project for the Style Stitches Sew Along - the Perfectly Pleated Clutch. I haven't been too crazy about this one, and when I got the book it was probably one of my bottom three patterns. For some reason though, in the last week I've gotten really excited about it, so was happy to get it started this weekend. I got the second exterior panel finished up Monday, so now I'm ready to cut out the rest of the pieces & get it put together.

I also finally decided who I'm making the clutch for. Our boss' wife just had their fourth little girl on Monday, so we're going to use this as the "wrapping" for a restaurant gift card so he can pick up a few meals for them. Since I don't want the gift card to get missed in the clutch, I decided I want to put in a window ID pocket. I've never made one before, so I played around with it last night to try to figure out how to make the window pocket. I'm sure there are tutorials out there for it, but I had fun testing myself to figure it out.

Not the prettiest stitching, but I was working pretty quick & dirty just to see if it would work out. There is a piece of plastic (cut from one of those packages comforters come in) so you can see into the window, but it's still protected.

The inside of the pocket is basically lined too, not just folded over the edges. I'm not sure this is the best way to do this, it certainly wasn't the easiest, but it looks decent (ah, except those straggler strings).

Also started a cover for our outdoor fire pit. Come check it out & help me figure out how to finish it.

Completed: Not a darn thing, but I'm okay with that this week. It's nice how a change in attitude can make this okay, compared to a couple weeks ago. :)

On Hold: You didn't think I forgot about the Origami Bags or Postage Stamp quilt, did you? I haven't done much except shuffle them around the past couple weeks, so I feel like this is a better place for them. Now that I think about it though, I've only got about 3 months to get the Postage Stamp quilt done so I'd better get going! It's not doing much good looking like this:

Head over to Freshly Pieced to see what everybody else has been up to.

Until next time...

  1. What a sweet way to wrap a gift card! I agree, that pattern definitely wasn't at the top of my list, but your in-progress pics are making me change my mind :)

  2. I love that you are using different fabrics for the AB clutch. I think that really improves that bag. that was on the bottom of my list in the book too. But the different fabrics bring a lot more interest to it. Can't wait to see how it comes out.

  3. I have been sitting on the fence about that pattern - I like the look of it but it uses SO MUCH fabric for the size of the clutch. hmm, but yours looks scrummy and I'm very tempted now! You've given me an idea too for making an iPhone cover for myself!

  4. Ohh I love your idea for the clutch! I said it before, but I'll say it again, your pleating looks awesome!

  5. Your pleats look so acurate, wow! I'm also not so sure about the pattern, but I love your fabric. Speaking from experience, the postage stamps come together quite quickly once you get around to them

  6. I love that you made your window ID pocket by recycling something I would have thrown out. Great idea! I'm glad you're feeling more positive about your projects. Amazing how your attitude can just switch like that. I'm really excited about your pleated clutch.

  7. Your window ID pocket looks great. I tried one before too, but it was all wonky, I think that always happens when you add that darn plastic!

  9. There is some very nice laminated fabric out there or you could get the laminate yourself when you find a nice piece of fabric. One quilt shop I go to carries some of the Amy Butler laminate and also the heavy weight fabric as well. Just a suggestion and maybe try and make one out of an outdoor table cloth to get the pattern down. Hm just thinking is all. Hope that helps. Good for you to figure out the see through pocket by yourself, makes you feel good when you do that. Nice job.

  10. I just love that pleated clutch (I'm working backwards through my unread blogs, so I've already seen the finished product!) Really cute. Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday, and happy Mother's Day. : )
