Sis Boom Jamie Dress - A Sew Along

I'm excited about doing this dress sew along with Sara over at Sew Sweetness. The dress is just adorable, and looks like it'll be perfect for my ever-expanding belly this summer. Sara has even worked out a deal to get a discount on the pattern as well as fabric from SewLoveFabrics' Etsy shop! Head over to Sew Sweetness for all the details.

So my biggest problem isn't whether or not to sign up (of course I am!), but what fabric to use! So I need your input, I'm trying to decided between these two:

Mini Houndstooth by Free Spirit
mini houndstooth

or Bloom in Granite by Joel Dewberry
bloom in granite

I know neither one really screams summer, but I'm perfectly okay with that. I was originally thinking about doing a solid grey, but I've decided some sort of a print will be best, and these are what I narrowed it down to. I was actually thinking about this woodgrain, but decided that might be a bit too out there. And also, I'm feeling lazy & don't want to have to worry too much about a directional print.

So, which do you like better?

Until next time...

  1. I like all of those choices...but I would maybe do a contrasting waist band if you go w/the hounds tooth? The woodgrain would be interesting - but might garner some "tree" comments from people (like husbands who think they're funny).

  2. I'm excited about this sew along too! Since I had my eye on the Bloom fabric for myself I vote for that, although I do have a weakness for houndstooth so I think you'd be fine with either. Because I usually don't buy fabric in quantities over one yard I get to treat myself to some fun fabric for this and I've got my eye on the Aviary 2 fabrics in the shop. It's just a matter of deciding which one I like the best since I want them all.

  3. I love the bloom, but I have a thing against houndstooth...

  4. I like the Bloom too! I think I'm going with Overly Orange Fever Spots from Me & My Sister. In my opinion, it's more peach than orange. :)

  5. Thanks so much for the plug Bree! Ooo I didn't know you were looking at that Joel Dewberry too...tough call but I think the 2nd one!

  7. I love the bloom, but I have a softspot in my heart for houndstooth - if you do the hounds tooth, maybe a fushia wasteband? If it were me (and this is how I get in so much trouble with my husband), I would stack the fabrics and make BOTH!

Thank you for your comments, I appreciate each & every one I get. I do try to respond to most (if not all) comments, but that's hard to do if you don't have an e-mail in your profile! :)
