Quick question for you

A question has come up about this month's project:

If you are participating in the Sew Along & will be making this month's Reversible Everyday Shopper, are you planning to use Home Decor weight fabric, or something else? The pattern does call for home dec fabric, but I know I personally used something much lighter, and I've seen many others use quilting cotton. What's your plan, or what did you use if you've already made the bag?

Also, if you're using a lighter weight fabric, are you using a heavier interfacing?

Inquiring minds want to know! :)

Until next time...

  1. Wow, you guys are always ahead of me! To be honest, I don't really want the bag to be reversible because I would need the lining to be wow as well. I would like to go with home dec, ikea if possible!!!

  2. I haven't figured out what fabric I'm going to use, but I have a bunch of fusible fleece to use up - so if I use quilt-weight, I'll probably fleece both the inside & outside... if I use home dec, I'll probably just put the fleece on the inside piece!

  3. I'm using denim and a heavier Walmart cotton. I was just in there today and their cottons sure are getting thin!

  4. I'm such a cheap person that I tentatively plan to use some Ikea home dec. fabric for one side and quilting cotton for the other. Trying to use up things from my stash so we'll see what combo I can come up with. I'm also hoping I can get away with only interfacing the lining since the amount the pattern calls for is a lot. That stuff's expensive even when I buy it at 50% off!

  5. I have cut mine out and am using home dec fabric, but since home dec fabric is pretty thick, I am just doing one side with interfacing, aka the "interior" side of the bag and only the "inside" layer of the pockets and so on. In essence I am only using half the amount of interfacing. I hate all that ironing!

  6. So glad I found this blog! I've made the bag three times. All three I used home dec fabric. Joann's had some on sale at 50% off. Then I found a roll of 54" home dec fabric hiding in the back at the bottom. Not only 50% off, but another discount as it was the end of the "bolt" as it were. Great fabric, and cheap! I'll post to the Flickr group today and post here when I do.

  8. Im a sucker for high quality home dec like Amy Butler and Ty Pennington...but that can be expensive!! Joanns does have a few cute prints that would be good for bags and you can get for $5 yard. I noticed that some of her bags later on have a quilt wieght option (like the fringed hobo) which will be better on the wallet! I think I may try a quilt weight with fleece and see how that pans out...Thanks Bree!

  9. A tip for finding home decor fabric cheap. I went to my local thrift shop and saw loads of used drapes and curtains! I found a good one and paid $3 for it. No way could I have paid that much for it at the fabric store.
You can also pick up purses and take them apart for their hardware, zippers, etc.
